Breaking News: Shooting at SEPTA Subway Station in Center City Leaves One Injured
Authorities Reportedly Have Suspect in Custody After Incident on Market-Frankford Line Platform
Yesterday afternoon, chaos ensued at 15th Street Station in Center City as a shooting took place on the westbound platform of the SEPTA Market-Frankford line subway. The victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot multiple times and rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The prompt response from police led to the recovery of a weapon at the scene, with a suspect quickly taken into custody. Details surrounding the shooting remain unknown, leaving commuters shaken and seeking safety.
As officers secured the subway station and shut down the entrance beneath the iconic clothespin sculpture along 15th Street, SEPTA provided shuttle services temporarily to accommodate commuters amidst the ongoing investigation.
Update: Road closures and SEPTA detours were in full effect as authorities managed the aftermath of the incident. Despite the disruption, SEPTA has since resumed normal operations, with cautionary measures in place for the evening’s presidential debate at the National Constitution Center.
Following the incident, SEPTA tweeted: “MFL [L]: Police activity has cleared, and trains have resumed regular service along the line. 5th Street Station remains closed due to the Presidential debate. Expect residual delays while full operations are restored.”
Eyewitnesses painted a vivid picture of the panic that ensued as gunshots rang through the air, prompting a frantic rush to safety. Rose Scott, one of the witnesses, recounted her experience of the chaotic scene, while Bridget Guinan shared the harrowing moment when she narrowly escaped harm while fleeing the station.
Despite sustaining minor injuries in the chaos, Guinan expressed gratitude for being safe, stating, “It’s better than a gunshot. I’ll take it.”
