Another daring food theft occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning at the Philadelphia Food Distribution Center, where a pallet of tuna was stolen from a refrigerated truck parked at 3400 S. Lawrence St. in South Philly. The thieves managed to pull off the heist while the truck driver was asleep, waiting to unload his cargo. Security at Samuels Seafood Co. was quick to alert the driver about the ongoing theft as soon as they noticed it.

John Mackara, the director of security at Samuels Seafood, confirmed that approximately 350-400 pounds of tuna, valued at $10,000, were taken. Detectives are currently looking into the incident but have not provided any updates thus far.
According to Mackara, an employee on their way to work spotted the thieves and quickly informed the security supervisors. The culprits fled the scene upon being noticed, leaving behind their trail – four SUVs, including two white, one black, and one red.
This unfortunate theft is believed to be linked to other recent food heists in the area. Just earlier this week, Samuels Seafood reported a theft of $2,400 worth of salmon, while in a separate incident in Southwest Philadelphia in July, thieves got away with $15,000 worth of beef.
Police investigating the beef theft also mentioned a suspicious white SUV and Dodge Durango, possibly connected to an earlier snow crab theft at a Walmart in Northeast Philly.
