Over the weekend, chaos erupted in Philadelphia as illegal car meetups took place across the city, resulting in arrests and injuries. A 25-year-old man, Deonte Vincent, has been taken into custody for his involvement in the dangerous events that unfolded on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Vincent faces a slew of charges, including aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and disorderly conduct. The Philadelphia district attorney’s office held a press conference on Thursday to announce the charges. This arrest comes after another individual, Jhonny Martinez, 19, was also arrested in connection to the meetups.

The incident involving Vincent occurred in a Pep Boys parking lot near Bustleton Avenue, where he allegedly drove a blue Dodge Charger amidst a gathering of approximately 50 vehicles. When officers arrived to disperse the crowd, chaos ensued as Vincent sped towards the police, narrowly missing them before colliding with another vehicle.
According to William Sandman, an assistant district attorney, Vincent ignored commands to halt and proceeded to drive recklessly at high speeds. This led to an altercation that resulted in injuries to individuals involved.
Alongside Martinez, who was apprehended for his involvement in donuts and reckless driving, a total of 25 people were issued citations, and 38 vehicles were identified as participants in the meetups.
Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore expressed deep concern over the reckless behavior displayed during the meetups, which included setting off fireworks, starting fires, and brandishing weapons. The repercussions of these actions resulted in injuries, damages to police vehicles, and road infrastructure.
Despite the chaos that unfolded, law enforcement agencies are working diligently to bring all individuals responsible to justice. The assistance of Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI has been enlisted to aid in the investigation.
As the investigation continues, the district attorney’s office has posted photos from the meetups in hopes of identifying additional suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police tip line.
In light of these events, Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Esack voiced her determination to hold accountable those who show a callous disregard for public safety. The people of Philadelphia deserve to traverse their city without fear of criminal elements disrupting their peace.
