Experience a car-free Center City this September! For the last four Sundays of the month, several blocks in the heart of Philadelphia will transform into pedestrian-only “open streets.”
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Sunday, parts of 18th Street and Walnut Street will be closed to traffic, offering a unique opportunity for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a car-free environment near Rittenhouse Square. The Center City District has planned a variety of activities to make the open streets event even more exciting.
The goal is to generate foot traffic to local businesses, encourage interaction among community members, and enhance the overall experience of exploring Philadelphia on foot. Live music, circus performances, dance lessons, and more will be available for everyone to enjoy.
As you stroll along the open streets, be sure to check out the expanded outdoor seating at select restaurants and take advantage of special offers from various businesses. The Ground Rittenhouse will be launching their fall menu with delicious treats like pumpkin spice pop tarts and green apple popping boba tea. Plus, fitness enthusiasts can join a group run with Philadelphia Runner or try a complimentary class at Rumble Boxing.
This initiative builds on Philadelphia’s previous open street events, including Philly Free Streets, which have been well-received by the community. While there are no future Philly Free Streets events planned at the moment, the city continues to explore ways to create more pedestrian-friendly spaces.
Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a car-free Center City and explore the vibrant neighborhood around Rittenhouse Square. Get ready to shop, dine, and make unforgettable memories during Open Streets: West Walnut!
