Welcome to the final training camp game ball story of 2024! As the Eagles wrapped up their training camp practice on Wednesday, two standout players emerged on both sides of the ball.
Offensive game ball: RB Kenny Gainwell
Kenny Gainwell truly shined for the Eagles’ offense during Wednesday’s practice. With Saquon Barkley sidelined for 11-on-11 drills, Gainwell took the lead as the primary back for the day.
He showcased his versatility by making numerous receptions, including two impressive touchdowns. One of his scores came from a spectacular diving catch in the end zone, revealing a new dimension to his game. Gainwell also demonstrated quick bursts in the ground game, impressing everyone in attendance.
While Will Shipley had been making waves as a backup running back, Gainwell’s outstanding performance on the final day of training camp stole the show. He proved his worth and made a strong case for a significant role in the Eagles’ offense moving forward.
“He’s been growing,” remarked Jalen Hurts about Gainwell after practice, acknowledging the impressive camp he has had.
Defensive game ball: CB Darius Slay
Throughout training camp, much attention was given to Jalen Hurts’ interception-free streak. However, Darius Slay brought that streak to an end on Wednesday by picking off Hurts during practice and returning the ball with finesse.
“Yeah, I’m aware,” Slay commented post-practice on Hurts’ mistake-free streak. “That’s normal, 12 years in, I’ve been intercepting quarterbacks for a long time,” he added proudly.
Slay almost secured another interception, showcasing his remarkable pass breakup skills with a stellar play in the end zone against A.J. Brown.
The defense dominated the offense during the Eagles’ final training camp practice, with Slay’s exceptional playmaking abilities playing a significant role in their success.
