Exploring Mekhi Becton’s Rise: A Detailed Analysis
As the offseason approached, we delved into Mekhi Becton’s performance during Week 5 against the Eagles in 2023. Despite this game being labeled as one of Becton’s weaker performances according to PFF, there were certain aspects of his play that caught our attention.
From our review, we noted the following highlights:
- His ability to maintain a strong anchor owing to his immense physical stature.
- Impressive takedowns in pass protection against the Eagles, showcasing his raw power.
- His dominance in the run game, where once he latches onto a defender, they are pushed back.
On the flip side, we also identified areas for improvement:
- Struggles with inside counters due to his wide frame and limited ability to reverse direction.
- Issues with control in the run game, leading to occasional missed blocks against quicker interior linemen.

Becton’s improved control as a run blocker and refined technique in pass protection were evident in his performance against the Packers. Furthermore, he displayed remarkable blocking versatility which included shutting down defenders on the interior and recognizing blitzes effectively.
While the highlight reel showcased Becton’s strengths, there were minimal lowlights during the game, reinforcing his overall solid performance.
Encouraging Signs from Cam Jurgens
In addition to Becton’s stellar play, Cam Jurgens also showed promise despite a few setbacks, including a premature snap and a fumbled exchange. However, Jurgens showcased impressive blocking skills which reflected his potential for growth.
Overall, the Eagles’ offensive line displayed immense promise, with Becton and Jurgens proving that their best performances are truly commendable.
