The Philadelphia Eagles concluded their preseason with a lackluster 26-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. While the game may not have been a thrilling one, it did provide an opportunity for some players to make a case for themselves before final roster cuts.
In a game where most starters were kept on the sideline, Jake Elliott stood out on offense by nailing a 41-yard field goal. Despite a lackluster offensive performance, Elliott’s contribution on the scoreboard was notable. Kenny Pickett struggled as Jalen Hurts’ backup, and running back Tyrion Davis-Price had an early fumble. However, Tanner McKee showed flashes of potential with a well-placed throw later in the game.
On the defensive side, Oren Burks and Ben VanSumeren shone bright. Burks, a former 49er, displayed a strong pass rush with a sack late in the first half. VanSumeren, an undrafted player who spent time on the practice squad last year, also impressed with a sack in the third quarter.
While Burks may face tough competition for a roster spot, VanSumeren’s performance could solidify his place on the team. The Eagles may consider keeping him on the practice squad as well.
As the preseason comes to a close, the focus now shifts to final cuts and preparations for the regular season opener on September 6 in Brazil. Despite the lackluster performance in the final preseason game, there were still bright spots that showed promise for the Eagles moving forward.
