It was a thrilling start to the NFL season as Saquon Barkley dominated the field in the Eagles’ victorious game against the Packers in Brazil. Following his outstanding performance, Barkley was honored with the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award, solidifying his status as a star in Philly.
The dynamic running back showcased his talent by amassing 132 total yards during the season opener in São Paulo. Barkley’s impressive debut included rushing for 109 yards and scoring three touchdowns, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished by a debuting Eagle since Terrell Owens in 2004.
His first touchdown came from a perfectly executed wheel route pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts, igniting the Eagles’ offense after a rocky start. Barkley continued to shine by adding two more touchdowns on the ground, maintaining the team’s lead over the Packers.
“You gotta give credit to the offensive line,” Barkley humbly praised his teammates after the game. “It starts with the offensive line and Jalen making the right reads to put us in the right positions. The O-line is setting me up, making me look better than I actually am.”
The Eagles made a significant move by signing Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million contract in the offseason, a deal that has already proven to be a game-changer for the team. While negotiations with his former team, the New York Giants, fell through, Barkley’s seamless transition to Philly has been a highlight of the NFL season.
