A shocking incident occurred over the weekend when Matthew McCaffery, a Montgomery County political leader, was swatted at his home after publicly expressing his support for Kamala Harris in an interview with CNN. This disturbing event took place shortly after McCaffery appeared on CNN to voice his opposition to Donald Trump.
In a video shared on social media, McCaffery revealed that the Upper Merion Police showed up at his house, marking it as a swatting incident, where a fake emergency call is made to the authorities. This alarming event unfolded following his appearance on CNN where he openly discussed his decision not to back Donald Trump.

“This happened after I appeared on CNN, where I discussed my decision not to support Donald Trump,” McCaffery wrote in a post on social media. “These types of attacks are precisely why I’m speaking out against the MAGA faction of my party and proudly voting for Kamala Harris.”
Last night, my family was swatted in what Upper Merion Police are classifying as a politically motivated crime. This happened after I appeared on @CNN, where I discussed my decision not to support Donald Trump.

McCaffery has been an outspoken critic of Trump, even appearing on billboards to express his shift from being a former Trump supporter to backing Harris. He recently penned an op-ed criticizing the Republican nominee’s treatment of veterans.
Initially joining the Republican Committee in 2022 with the goal of helping the party win local elections, McCaffery now faces consequences as committee members are mandated to support the party’s candidate. A disciplinary hearing was set for McCaffery, with his expulsion anticipated.
No official statements have been released regarding the hearing, but as of Tuesday morning, the Upper Merion seat was marked as vacant on the committee’s website.
