Tragedy struck in South Philly as a 25-year-old man was ambushed and fatally shot while riding his bicycle on Wednesday evening. According to police reports, the incident occurred at the 1500 block of Snyder Ave. around 7 p.m.

The victim was targeted by three men who opened fire on him after getting out of a dark-colored sedan. Shockingly, they continued to shoot him even after he fell to the ground, still straddling his bike. The assailants then fled in the sedan, driving east on Snyder Ave. The victim tragically passed away at the scene at 7:08 p.m.

Police have confirmed that the victim resided a few blocks away from where the shooting occurred, however, they have not yet released his identity.

Authorities believe the shooting was targeted as more than 40 spent shell casings were found at the scene. The shots were fired at close range, leading police to label the incident as “execution style.” Surveillance footage from a SEPTA bus and nearby buildings is currently being reviewed by investigators. Several witnesses were present at the scene, though no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered.

If you have any information regarding the shooting, you are urged to contact the Philadelphia Police tip hotline by texting or calling (215) 686-8477, or by filling out an online form.
