Welcome to the premiere of my new weekly column! While I’ve previously shared “5 Eagles thoughts” on PhillyVoice, I am excited to explore a broader NFL perspective during the football season.
Let’s dive right in…
The New York Giants: A Comedy of Errors
It’s hard not to chuckle at the predicament the New York Giants find themselves in. From their costly quarterback contract to their questionable decisions on the field, it’s all quite comical. The recent game against the Vikings only added to their woes, with the Giants sporting some truly outrageous uniforms.
And let’s not forget watching Saquon Barkley shine with the Eagles after leaving the Giants. It’s a good reminder to reach out to your Giants-fan friends after every Barkley touchdown – they’ll appreciate the humor.
Jimmy Kempski will undoubtedly have a field day dissecting why the Giants are in such disarray come the next offseason.
The Cleveland Browns: A Lesson in Mistakes
Deshaun Watson’s controversial off-field issues and lackluster performance on the field have made him a less-than-desirable figure. Cleveland’s decision to invest heavily in him with a massive contract and draft picks raises eyebrows. It seems they are paying the price for their choices, while Houston reaps the benefits from the trade.
With Baker Mayfield now flourishing elsewhere, Cleveland’s loss in this trade is evident. It’s a cautionary tale of what can happen when poor decisions are made in the NFL.
The Carolina Panthers: A Case of Despair
Carolina’s struggles on the field paint a bleak picture for the franchise. With little hope for a turnaround in sight, fans are left wondering if there’s any reason to tune in. It’s a far cry from the excitement of other NFL teams, making it a tough sell for Carolina supporters.
While their fate may elicit sympathy, the memories of past unfavorable calls in crucial games make it hard to feel sorry for them.
Tom Brady’s Broadcasting Debut: An Underwhelming Start
Tom Brady’s entry into the broadcasting world left much to be desired. His subdued presence and lack of on-screen charisma were unexpected from the legendary player. While it’s only his first game, fans hope to see more from him in the future. Despite the slow start, it’s hard to discount Brady’s potential in this new role.
Look out for Brady’s commentary in the upcoming Cowboys-Saints game – it may offer a chance for redemption.
Will Micah Parsons Secure a New Deal with the Cowboys?
As Dallas celebrates recent lucrative contracts, the spotlight now shifts to Micah Parsons. The standout player is yet to secure an extension, raising questions about the team’s financial commitments. Given Parsons’ talent and potential, it would be a major misstep to let him go. Fans eagerly await news on his future with the Cowboys.
For now, let’s anticipate an exciting slate of games in Week 2, with matchups like Cincinnati at Kansas City and New Orleans at Dallas on the horizon.
