Stepping onto the hallowed grounds of the Lincoln Financial Field, Nick Foles returned to his rightful place of honor on Monday night. With a statue already erected in his likeness outside the stadium, Foles officially retired as an Eagle, capping off his legendary Super Bowl-winning career. Before the Eagles’ Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, Foles took the time to address the media and reflect on his incredible journey.
Emotions ran high as Foles reminisced about his roots in Texas, the electrifying atmosphere of the 2017 NFC Championship Game, and the iconic Philly Special play that will forever be etched in football history.
“Wearing midnight green, there was something special about it,” Foles shared in a press conference that was attended by both media representatives and his beloved family. “I always felt a unique connection to this city and this stadium.”
But what truly sets Foles apart is his resilience and unwavering determination. From being a hero in Philadelphia to facing uncertainty and adversity in his career, only to rise again as a backup and ultimately lead the Eagles to an improbable Super Bowl victory against football royalty Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
“Each chapter in my journey had its own purpose and unique story,” Foles reflected. “I’m grateful for every experience along the way.”
His brief stints with other teams like the Rams, Jaguars, Bears, and Colts never quite replicated the magic he found in Philadelphia. Yet, Foles remains eternally grateful for the lessons learned and the friendships forged during his time with the Eagles.
“I was destined to play here, and I am forever thankful to have been a part of these historic teams,” Foles expressed. “My time here has shaped me into a better person, both on and off the field.”
