Shocking news out of Center City as a 36-year-old man is behind bars and facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting five people in an unprovoked attack on Monday morning.

The suspect, Donnell Bruce, targeted three “elderly” individuals – two women and a man – by aggressively pushing them to the ground on the 2200 block of Market Street around 7:15 a.m. Authorities have not disclosed the ages of the victims but confirm that the assault was completely unprovoked.

After the initial attacks, Bruce continued his rampage by assaulting a 22-year-old woman, punching her in the face and causing her to fall to the ground. He then tried to steal a bag from a 77-year-old man and physically assaulted him when he resisted. Thanks to the swift response from law enforcement, Bruce was apprehended at the scene.

All five victims suffered minor injuries as a result of the attacks, and Bruce now faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery, simple assault, resisting arrest, and other related offenses.

Despite a general decrease in violent crime in Philadelphia, recent statistics from Philly Police reveal a concerning rise in reported aggravated assaults in 2024, with numbers showing a more than 7% increase compared to the previous year by August 25th.
