Exciting Playoff Picture for the Phillies
With the way the season is shaping up, the Philadelphia Phillies are poised for an exciting playoff run. They have already clinched the NL East and secured a bye into the NLDS, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense postseason.
As it stands right now, the Phillies would face the winner of the 3-vs.-6 seed three-game Wild Card series. However, there is still a lot of potential movement in seedings that could happen before the playoffs begin. The Dodgers, as a likely opponent if the Phillies make it to the NLCS, add another layer of intrigue to the mix.
Seed | Team | Record | GB |
3. | Brewers | 90-68 | |
4. | Padres | 91-67 | — |
5. | Mets | 87-70 | — |
6. | Diamondbacks | 88-70 | — |
Braves | 86-71 | 1 |
The playoff race is heating up with the Brewers and Mets set to battle it out in a series while the Diamondbacks and Padres are also in contention. The Phillies could face any of these teams in a Round 2 bout which is scheduled to begin on October 5th in South Philly.
5. Diamondbacks (3-4 this season)
Potential rotation: Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodríguez
The Diamondbacks might be a tough opponent for the Phillies, especially considering their history in the postseason. With vengeance on their minds, the Phillies will be looking to avoid a repeat of last year’s season-ending loss to the Diamondbacks.
4. The Brewers (4-2 this season)
Potential rotation: Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, Tobias Myers
The Brewers present a formidable challenge with a well-rounded team that is in the top 10 of all MLB teams in both offense and pitching. They are a definite threat to the Phillies’ NLCS hopes.
3. The Mets (7-6 this season)
Potential rotation: Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, José Quintana
The Mets have shown remarkable momentum and could be a surprise package in the playoffs. The Phillies will need to be cautious against a team that has had their number recently.
2. The Padres (5-1 this season)
Potential rotation: Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove
The Phillies have a strong record against the Padres this season, and they will be looking to continue that trend in the playoffs.
1. The Braves (6-7 this season)
Potential rotation: Max Fried, Charlie Morton, Chris Sale
The Phillies will be hoping to maintain their dominance over the Braves in the postseason after a successful regular season against them. With a potential matchup looming, the Phillies will be looking to capitalize on their momentum.
