The Philadelphia Eagles have finalized their 53-man roster, but as we all know, the NFL is always full of surprises, so more changes could be just around the corner.
Let’s take a closer look at the initial 53:
Quarterback (3): Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, Tanner McKee
Jalen Hurts had an impressive training camp, but without any preseason game action, there are questions about how well he will transition into the regular season starting role. Pickett and McKee battled it out for the backup position, with Pickett likely to take the role in Week 1.
Running back (3): Saquon Barkley, Kenny Gainwell, Will Shipley
Barkley will be the primary ball carrier if he stays healthy, but Gainwell and Shipley are expected to contribute significantly as well.
Wide receiver (5): A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Britain Covey, Johnny Wilson
Brown and Smith lead the receiving corps, with Dotson stepping into the WR3 role. Covey will handle punt returns and could see increased offensive action, while Wilson is expected to develop behind the scenes initially.
Tight end (2): Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra
With only two tight ends currently on the roster, the Eagles are likely to add another before Week 1.
Offensive line (9): Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Mekhi Becton, Lane Johnson, Fred Johnson, Tyler Steen, Trevor Keegan, Darian Kinnard
The Eagles made some surprising cuts along the offensive line, leaving them thin at certain positions. There might be a scramble to find a backup center if specific scenarios play out.
Edge defenders (6): Bryce Huff, Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Patrick Johnson
There is a mix of seasoned players and inexperienced talent at the edge defender position, presenting both opportunities and challenges for the Eagles.
Interior defensive line (6): Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Marlon Tuipulotu, Moro Ojomo, Thomas Booker
A blend of promising young players and potential starters make up the interior defensive line group.
Linebacker (5): Devin White, Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, Jeremiah Trotter, Ben VanSumeren
Improved linebacker depth should provide more stability for the Eagles defense this season.
Cornerback (6): Darius Slay, Isaiah Rodgers, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Kelee Ringo, Eli Ricks
A mix of veteran leadership and young talent in the cornerback group will be tested as they look to live up to their potential.
Safety (5): Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, Avonte Maddox, Tristin McCollum James Bradberry
Strong preseason performances earned some players their spot on the roster, while others faced tough decisions due to a competitive group.
Specialists (3): Jake Elliott, Braden Mann, Rick Lovato
The Eagles’ specialists have a clear path to their roles in the team without any competition during training camp.
