Welcome to our Sixers player preview series! As we gear up for Sixers Media Day on September 30, we will be delving into each of the 14 players on the team’s roster. We’ll be asking two key questions for each player that will play a crucial role in shaping their season in 2024-25, followed by a prediction for what lies ahead for them.
In our previous installments, we’ve focused on players vying to secure spots in Coach Nick Nurse’s rotation. With that covered, let’s now turn our attention to the eight players who are expected to be on the court when the Sixers tip-off their season against the Milwaukee Bucks this October.
Seeking an elite three-point shooter, Sixers President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, brought in a familiar face: veteran Eric Gordon. An NBA veteran entering his 17th season, Gordon is still chasing his first championship.

How does Gordon fare on the defensive end?
Eric Gordon made a name for himself during his tenure with the Houston Rockets for his sharpshooting abilities. However, he was equally known for his defensive prowess, often tasked with guarding larger wings due to his solid skills despite not having remarkable athleticism.
At 36 with extensive NBA experience and a history of injuries, the question arises of whether Gordon should manage his playing time to stay healthy and effective throughout the season. Also, the concerns about his defensive capabilities with age and wear and tear cannot be ignored.
With diminished athleticism, Gordon might face challenges in handling critical defensive assignments. Will he still be a reliable defender or will limitations force tactical adjustments on the court?

Gordon may not be suited for primary defensive roles anymore. The key lies in how seamless his contributions can be against opponents, especially in critical game situations.
Does Gordon still possess shot-creation skills?
While not a traditional point guard, Gordon has shown playmaking abilities throughout his career. As the Sixers lack elite passers apart from a few, Gordon’s ability to create scoring opportunities, leveraging his shooting threat, can add a valuable dimension to the team.
His role won’t involve primary ball-handling duties, but consistent smart passing would greatly benefit the team’s offensive flow.

Gordon’s passing abilities could be a game-changer for a team with star talents like Embiid and George. Consistent playmaking without overreaching will be his aim for the season.
Prediction
Barring injuries or rest, Gordon will feature consistently in the Sixers’ rotation for the entire season.
Gordon’s potential impact on the team goes beyond his individual contributions. His presence forces defensive attention, creating opportunities for his teammates and optimizing floor spacing for stars like Embiid and George.
As we anticipate the upcoming season, Gordon’s shooting prowess and experience can elevate the Sixers to new heights. His role as a reliable weapon from long range adds a crucial dimension to the team’s offensive strategies.
A veteran shooter like Gordon can transform a strong team into a formidable force, and his addition could be a game-changer for the Sixers this season.
