In a shocking turn of events, a suspect is now in custody after a chilling threat on social media led to the closure of multiple schools Monday in New Jersey.
In a post that has since been deleted, the suspect ominously warned of shootings at five schools: Woodbury Junior-Senior High School, Thomas Bowe Middle School, Holy Angels Catholic School, Haddon Heights Junior-Senior High School, and Oak Valley School. The Woodbury Police have confirmed that the suspect is a juvenile.
The community is understandably on edge, with local law enforcement agencies ramping up efforts to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. Woodbury Police issued a statement on Facebook, declaring that they are working closely with school officials to investigate the situation.
Adding to the urgency of the situation, Deptford Township Police and South Jersey State Police are also involved in the investigation. The gravity of the threat has prompted Woodbury City Public Schools and Deptford Township School District to close for the day, along with the cancellation of transportation services and after-school activities.
However, Glassboro School District has opted to remain open but with an increased police presence on site. Haddon Heights School District and Holy Angels have yet to address the threats publicly, but Haddon Heights Police have confirmed that they will be present on campus on Monday.
Although officials do not believe the threat is credible, they are not taking any chances when it comes to the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families. Woodbury City Public Schools Superintendent, Andrew Bell, released a statement reassuring the community that every precaution is being taken to maintain a secure environment.
