Philadelphia Eagles fans received news that safety Sydney Brown has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, sidelining him for at least the first four regular-season games. This means he won’t count toward the 53-man roster until he is able to return.
Brown suffered a torn ACL in the final game of the 2023 season against the New York Giants and has been diligently rehabbing since then. Despite his absence from training camp drills, Brown has been actively engaged by standing behind the action during team drills, visualizing his role on the field. He has also been working on his speed with sprints on a separate field, showcasing his commitment to getting back in playing form.
As a rookie in 2023, Brown primarily contributed on special teams, playing limited snaps on defense. Despite the team facing numerous injuries in the safety position, Brown struggled to secure a consistent role early on in the season. However, when given the opportunity to showcase his skills later in the year, he impressed with plays like his memorable 99-yard pick-six against the Cardinals.
With Brown out, the Eagles will rely on Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, and Avonte Maddox to hold down the safety position.
