Say goodbye to two iconic Center City nightlife spots as Howl at the Moon and Down Nightclub have officially closed their doors. Located side by side on South 15th Street, these venues were known for their lively entertainment offerings and vibrant atmosphere.

Howl at the Moon, with its signature “dueling pianos” concept, allowed audiences to request their favorite songs from two talented pianists. On the other hand, Down Nightclub was a hotspot for party-goers looking to dance the night away to live DJ sets.

The announcement of the closure came as a shock to many, with the venues citing July 1st, 2024, as their final operating date. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the operators expressed their gratitude to the countless patrons and dedicated staff who had been part of their journey over the past decade.

Just days before the closure, Howl at the Moon had teased exciting events and new drink offerings for its loyal fans. Unfortunately, these plans will now remain unrealized as the venues bid farewell to the Philadelphia nightlife scene.

While the Center City locations have closed their doors, Howl at the Moon enthusiasts can still enjoy the chain’s unique entertainment experience at one of their other 12 locations across the country, including Boston, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. Additionally, the chain operates a venue on the Norwegian Cruise Line known as Howl at the Sea.

As for Down Nightclub, those looking to recreate the vibe can visit their Boston location for a similar nightlife experience. This sudden closure echoes the fate of a Howl at the Moon venue in Washington, D.C., which shut down earlier this year in a swift fashion.
