Discount retailer Big Lots is making headlines with plans to close up to 315 stores across the U.S., including four in the Philly region. The Columbus, Ohio-based company, known for its low-cost groceries, home furnishings, and toys, has decided to shut down more locations than previously projected.

Among the Philly-area stores slated for closure are:

– 199 Franklin Mills Blvd., Philadelphia
– 713 E Baltimore Ave., Clifton Heights (Delaware County)
– 201 W. Lincoln Hwy., Exton (Chester County)
– 345 Scarlet Road, Kennett Square (Chester County)

Although Big Lots has not announced the closure dates for these stores, customers can expect significant discounts of up to 20% as part of the store closing sales. This news comes after the company’s recent struggles, with a 10% decrease in first-quarter sales and doubts about its ability to pay off debts in the near future.

Despite these challenges, Big Lots remains optimistic about its future. The closures represent about 10% of the company’s total locations, leaving plenty of opportunities for customers to visit their other stores in the region, including locations in Northeast Philadelphia, Fairless Hills, Norristown, and Cherry Hill.

Big Lots CEO, Bruce Thorn, emphasized the impact of consumer spending habits on the company’s sales, particularly in higher-priced discretionary items. With a proactive approach to address their financial situation, Big Lots aims to overcome these difficulties and continue providing value to its customers. Stay tuned for updates on store closure dates and ongoing sales promotions at your nearest Big Lots store.
