A shocking incident recently occurred at the Humane Society of Atlantic County, where a man was arrested for abandoning multiple dogs under the cover of darkness when staff were not present. This heartless act has sparked outrage and concern for the well-being of innocent animals.

The culprit, identified as Jahlil McNeal, 23, from Atlantic City, was apprehended and now faces charges of cruelty to animals, failure to provide care to animals, theft of services, and witness tampering. According to the Atlantic City Police Department’s Facebook post, McNeal was caught on camera dumping four dogs over the fence at the shelter located on 1401 Absecon Blvd. in Atlantic City.

On a chilling night, McNeal was seen on video arriving at the shelter with a black pit bull mix on a leash. In a cruel act of abandonment, he lifted the dog and callously threw it over the fence before fleeing the scene. This was not an isolated incident, as the Humane Society reported that this was the fourth time a helpless dog was discarded in this manner.

The female dog rescued from this heartless act was named Brenda and had visible scarring on her back. Thanks to the efforts of the Humane Society, Brenda was later adopted into a loving home, showing that there is hope after such callous acts.

Authorities revealed that McNeal was also linked to a previous incident in April, where three other dogs were abandoned at the shelter in a similar manner. This pattern of cruelty raises grave concerns about the well-being of innocent animals at the mercy of heartless individuals.

Following his arrest during a routine traffic stop, McNeal is now in police custody at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information related to these incidents is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 609-347-5766.

The Humane Society, which typically accepts pet surrenders by appointment, has temporarily halted this process due to unforeseen circumstances. While the shelter works tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of animals, incidents like these highlight the ongoing need for vigilance and compassion towards our furry friends.
