The Philadelphia Flyers head coach has been named as an assistant to Team USA’s staff for the NHL’s much-anticipated 4 Nations Face-off. Joining forces with Pittsburgh Penguins’ head coach, Mike Sullivan, Tortorella will be working alongside John Hynes and David Quinn as assistant coaches for the prestigious event.
With his vast coaching experience, Tortorella is no stranger to the international scene. Having previously led Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and served as an assistant for them in the 2010 Olympics, he brings a wealth of expertise to the table. The U.S. came agonizingly close to gold in 2010, falling just short against a Sidney Crosby overtime goal.
The NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off is set to take place from Feb. 12-20, 2025 in Montreal and Boston, marking a significant step towards best-on-best international competition. The event was introduced during the league’s 2024 All-Star weekend, with players from the U.S., Canada, Sweden, and Finland all set to showcase their skills.
Not only does the tournament pave the way for NHL players to compete in the Olympics once again, but it also signals the return of the World Cup of Hockey in the coming years.
