When the clock struck 8:30 p.m. on cutdown day, we had officially discovered that the Green Bay Packers boasted the youngest team in the NFL. This news came after we meticulously gathered data from all 32 NFL team websites.
In previous years, the title of the youngest NFL team belonged to various franchises:
- 2023: Green Bay Packers
- 2022: Cleveland Browns
- 2021: New York Jets
- 2020: Jacksonville Jaguars
- 2019: Miami Dolphins
- 2018: Cincinnati Bengals
- 2017: Cleveland Browns
- 2012-2016: St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams
Interestingly, the Miami Dolphins currently hold the distinction of having the oldest roster in the NFL. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles have secured the sixth spot in terms of youngest teams, a significant improvement from their 21st place ranking last year. Notable retirements, such as those of Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, have likely contributed to the decrease in average age for the Eagles.
Although roster adjustments continue to happen, the average age for each team should remain relatively stable. Here is a snapshot of the current average ages of NFL teams:
- Packers: 24.96
- Rams: 25.45
- Buccaneers: 25.45
- Chiefs: 25.46
- Jaguars: 25.51
It’s essential to remember that youth doesn’t necessarily equate to success, and age isn’t always an indicator of talent. However, teams with a blend of youth and skill, especially those with promising young quarterbacks like the Kansas City Chiefs, are positioned well for future success.
(And no, using the median age for each team is not the ideal approach.) 😇
