Republican candidate Dave McCormick’s U.S. Senate campaign recently faced embarrassment when a post on their social media account mistakenly referenced gang violence in Philadelphia. The only problem? They were talking about Philadelphia, Mississippi, not Pennsylvania.

Misinterpreting a news report from a local Mississippi station, McCormick’s post on X (formerly Twitter) blamed MS-13 gang violence on Senators Kamala Harris and Bob Casey’s immigration policies.

While the post was swiftly deleted, Casey’s team was quick to capture the error. With sass, communications director Maddy McDaniel pointed out the mix-up and helpfully shared an image of a Philadelphia police car for reference.

Even Pennsylvania’s other Senator, John Fetterman, couldn’t resist chiming in with a dig at McCormick’s out-of-state roots. Fetterman’s snarky comment sparked laughs on social media.

In response to the criticism, McCormick admitted the mistake but stood by his stance on Casey’s policies. The blunder added a humorous twist to the heated Senate race in Pennsylvania, a battleground state for upcoming elections.

With polling data showing a tight race between McCormick and Casey, every misstep and witty comeback could make all the difference in this high-stakes campaign.
