Are you planning to travel for the Labor Day weekend? If so, you may find that Megabus is not as simple an option as you remember. In June, Megabus’s parent company Coach USA declared bankruptcy, leading to the takeover of its routes by other bus companies this month.
Now, Peter Pan Bus Lines is serving routes that connect Philly, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. On the other hand, Fullington Trailways is facilitating travel between Philly, New York, State College, and Pittsburgh.
If you’re wondering what happened to the routes that served stops in cities like Dallas, Atlanta, Richmond, and others in the southern United States, unfortunately, those were discontinued. However, you can still reserve trips on the Megabus website, which now redirects to book trips with Peter Pan and Fullington travel services.
Passengers who booked their trips on or before Aug. 15 were contacted to reschedule. Currently, Megabus stops in Philly are located at Schuylkill Avenue and Walnut Street, near the William H. Gray 30th Street Station, and in Northern Liberties at 520 North Christopher Columbus Blvd.
However, the changes in inner city bus stops and routes are only the latest in a series of challenges for bus riders in Philly. In 2023, the city’s Greyhound station closed after 35 years, leaving passengers without a central hub for bus travel. Temporary stops on streets like Market Street have caused congestion, with passengers lacking shelter and seating.
Despite these challenges, Philadelphia is still without a proper bus terminal after the closure of the Greyhound station. It seems like the journey for bus travelers in Philly is becoming more complex than ever before. Stay updated with the latest changes to your travel routes and plan accordingly for a stress-free trip.
