Exciting news from Temple University! The faculty union has recently announced a groundbreaking five-year contract agreement that includes substantial raises and improved job security for its members. This marks the largest negotiated raises for faculty since 1999, showcasing a major win for the Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP).
After more than a year of collective bargaining, the agreement was reached, offering all full-time employees a $10,000 raise across the board, along with 3% raises each year of the contract. Additionally, adjuncts will see higher pay rates and no increases in healthcare costs, ensuring fair compensation and benefits for all union members.
In a statement, the union expressed their excitement over the historic wins in pay equity, job security, and various other benefits included in the agreement. However, the tentative contract still requires ratification by union members and approval from Temple University’s Board of Trustees.
Sharon Boyle, Temple’s vice president of human resources, extended her gratitude to the entire Temple University community for their patience and support throughout the negotiation process.
Notably, the new contract addresses the changing landscape of higher education post-COVID-19, with increased pay rates for adjunct professors and improvements in leave policies for librarians and academic professionals. While some areas, such as sick leave policy, remain unchanged, the union continues to advocate for better working conditions for all employees.
Furthermore, the agreement includes crucial protections for academic freedom and discipline related to student feedback, highlighting a commitment to fostering a supportive work environment for faculty members.
As Temple University undergoes a leadership transition, this new contract sets a positive tone for the future under incoming President John Fry. With these transformative changes, Temple continues its commitment to prioritizing the well-being and success of its faculty and staff.
