Scandal has rocked Atlantic City, as Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, La’Quetta, face indictments for physically abusing their teenage daughter. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office revealed the shocking allegations this week, painting a troubling picture of domestic abuse within the Small family.

According to authorities, the couple’s daughter, just 16 years old at the time, suffered abuse in the form of beatings with a broomstick, being thrown down stairs, and repeated punches during heated arguments in December and January. The indictment was handed down by a grand jury, highlighting the severity of the accusations against the mayor and his wife.

In a disturbing twist, the teen initially confided in Constance Days-Chapman, who served as the principal of Atlantic City High School and was also Small’s former campaign manager. Days-Chapman allegedly failed to report the abuse to authorities, prompting the victim to seek help from a school counselor. Days-Chapman, subsequently charged with various offenses, failed to take action, leading to further complications in the case.

As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement officers raided the Small residence, seizing electronic devices as potential evidence. Mayor Small defended Days-Chapman, calling her a “close family friend” and downplaying the seriousness of the allegations against her. The narrative took a darker turn as details of the abuse emerged, depicting a pattern of violence and intimidation directed at the couple’s daughter.

Incidents involving physical harm allegedly escalated, with the mayor accused of forcefully shoving his daughter and causing injury. His wife, La’Quetta, is also implicated in the abuse, with accusations of punching, dragging, and hitting their daughter in various acts of violence. The toxic environment at home was reportedly fueled by disagreements over the teen’s boyfriend, leading to a series of confrontations captured in audio recordings.

As the case unfolds, the Smalls face charges of endangering the welfare of a child, with Mayor Small additionally accused of making terroristic threats and aggravated assault. The scandal has cast a shadow over Small’s mayoral tenure, raising questions about his leadership and personal conduct.

Despite the allegations, Small remains in office, with his term set to end next year. The community watches closely as the legal proceedings continue, hoping for justice and accountability in a case that has exposed the dark underbelly of power and privilege.
