Exciting news in the world of wine as Chaddsford Winery, the esteemed winemaker nestled in the picturesque Brandywine Valley, has officially been sold to the owners of New Jersey’s White Horse Winery. This acquisition comes after Chaddsford Winery was put up for sale earlier this year, with the deal being announced by the respective companies on Monday.
Established in 1982, Chaddsford Winery has solidified its place as one of Pennsylvania’s largest wine producers, thriving on a five-acre property in Pennsbury Township, Chester County. Even with this change in ownership, both wineries will continue to operate as separate entities, maintaining their unique identities and offerings.
The decision to sell Chaddsford Winery was made by former owners Greg and Matt Petrillo, who sought to streamline their investment portfolio and exit the wine industry. White Horse Winery, founded in scenic Hammonton, Atlantic County in 2013, is a smaller vineyard boasting a tasting room and event spaces.
Though the terms of the sale were not disclosed, it was reported that the owners were seeking $4.5 million for the renowned Chaddsford Winery. Over the years, Chaddsford Winery has blossomed under the guidance of the Petrillo family and Eric and Lee Miller, growing to produce approximately 24,000 cases of wine annually.
Notable events such as the Adult Trick-or-Treat Festival – a Halloween-themed walking tour and tasting event – have become a key revenue driver, with around 6,300 tickets sold each October. Under the fresh ownership, Chaddsford Winery will continue to welcome visitors seven days a week for guided wine flights, reservations, and bottle sales.
It’s an exciting time for Chaddsford Winery as it transitions into this new chapter under the ownership of White Horse Winery led by owner BJ Vinton. White Horse Winery, known for its estate-grown wines, currently distributes in New Jersey and Delaware, creating a great synergy between the two wineries.
“When we began this process, our goal was to find a new owner who was the best fit for our beloved Winery,” Corey Krejcik, general manager of Chaddsford Winery, expressed. “We’re confident that the Vinton’s and White Horse Winery are a perfect match.”
Recognized for its dry whites, reds, and sweet wines, Chaddsford Winery has garnered multiple gold medals at prestigious competitions and continues to innovate with seasonal and holiday-themed wines. White Horse Winery, on the other hand, has received the New Jersey Governor’s Cup and is known for its standout Albariño, a fruity white wine made from grapes native to Spain.
