Escape the summer heat and enjoy a unique dining experience at Picnic, the newest restaurant in East Kensington. Opening on July 3rd, Picnic aims to transport its guests to a cozy indoor picnic setting where they can relax and enjoy delicious food and drinks with friends.

Located in a charming 19th-century building, Picnic features a wood-fired rotisserie, an oyster bar, and a wine shop offering bottles from sustainable producers. This venture is the latest addition to Defined Hospitality, the team behind popular Philadelphia eateries like Kalaya, Suraya, and Pizzeria Beddia.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a wine shop that leads into an “exposed kitchen” showcasing the rotisserie and oyster bar. The main dining area can accommodate up to 225 people and features a lofty 40-foot ceiling, skylights, lush greenery, and a mezzanine overlooking the space. Private dining rooms, a walk-up bar, and a stage for live entertainment offer additional charm to the venue.

Al Lucas, a partner at Defined Hospitality, describes the concept as akin to stopping at a wine shop before heading out on a picnic. The approachable service focuses on minimal interaction while ensuring staff have ample knowledge about the menu offerings and wines. The overall ambiance aims for a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere.

Picnic, a new bar and restaurant in East Kensington, sells and serves a wide variety of wines from its wine shop.

The focal point of the kitchen is the wood-fired rotisserie, which currently roasts whole chickens and will soon include lamb, pork, and vegetables on the menu. Picnic has teamed up with Fishtown Seafood to offer a selection of fresh oysters. Their beverage menu boasts frozen drinks, cocktails, mocktails, beer, and wine to complement the meal.

Occupying a historic building that dates back to 1890, Picnic’s space was meticulously restored and stabilized for a year before construction to preserve its unique character. The dedication to maintaining its heritage adds an extra layer of charm to the dining experience.

You can visit Picnic daily starting on Wednesday, with reservations available for parties of eight or more through Resy. Otherwise, walk-ins are welcome to enjoy the casual dining atmosphere and impeccable service.
