As the Phillies found themselves trailing 2-0 against Atlanta on Sunday evening, Nick Castellanos emerged as the hero of the day. With a crucial two-RBI base hit in the sixth inning, the right fielder for the Fightins’ managed to tie the game, leading to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Castellanos delivered the winning run, securing a three out of four victory over their rivals:
The atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park was electric. Though it was only the first of September, the vibe of Red October was unmistakable.
In a postgame interview on ESPN after his walk-off hit, Castellanos touched upon the unique nature of Philadelphia fans, stating, “There’s a lot of energy because all these Philly fans are really into it. They’re going to give you all their love, they’re going to give you all their hate. They’re going to give you everything they got. Whatever form it comes in depends upon the night.“
Despite a challenging start to the 2024 season, Castellanos has consistently stepped up to the plate for the Phils in the past few months. Since May 29, he’s maintained a .283 batting average with an .828 OPS, along with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs.
With Red October inching closer, Philadelphia eagerly awaits to see if Castellanos and the team can lead them to another deep postseason run.
