After getting some game action under their belts, the Eagles returned to the NovaCare Complex on Sunday morning to continue ramping up their training camp ahead of the season. The pads were back on, and all three teams ran full 11-on-11s, but the standout moments came during the 1-on-1 drills, where some players truly shone.
Defense: Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell showcased his talent during Friday night’s preseason game against the Ravens with strong coverage on a pass attempt early in the game. This was a glimpse of the first-round corner’s potential, which he has consistently displayed during camp against the Eagles’ top receivers like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
During a break in practice, Mitchell faced off against Smith in 1-on-1 drills twice. On both occasions, Mitchell showcased his impressive coverage skills, preventing Smith from making catches. Mitchell, at just 23 years old, held his own against one of the best receivers in the NFL, earning praise from defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Offense: Johnny Wilson
While Mitchell has been impressive, he’s not unbeatable. In a practice-ending 1-on-1 drill, Mitchell faced off against sixth-round receiver Johnny Wilson, who made a spectacular touchdown catch in the end zone despite Mitchell’s coverage. Wilson’s performance adds to the competition for the third wide receiver spot, with players like Britain Covey in the mix.
Wilson hasn’t solidified his position yet, but his standout play on Sunday could boost his chances. The third receiver spot remains up for grabs, and Wilson’s performance could give him an edge in the competition.
