Attention Temple University students and parents, beware of a recent scam targeting families! The Department of Public Safety at Temple University has issued a warning about scammers posing as university police officers and asking for money.

Over the weekend, two concerned parents received alarming phone calls from individuals claiming to be “Temple Police Officers.” These imposters falsely claimed that their sons had been arrested and demanded immediate payment through Apple Pay or Cash App to secure their release.

Thankfully, both parents recognized the scam and did not fall victim to it. They immediately verified their sons’ safety and reported the incident to Temple University.

According to Temple, the fraudulent calls originated from a 215 area code. The university’s Criminal Investigations Unit is actively looking into these deceptive calls.

Remember, Temple University Police will never solicit money over the phone for the release of a student. If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the university, hang up immediately and contact Temple University Police Department at 215-204-1234 to report the incident.
