Exciting news for political enthusiasts! State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta is set to take the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday night. He will be part of a daily segment that denounces Project 2025, a conservative plan aimed at restructuring the executive branch.
Kenyatta, hailing from Philadelphia, will share the spotlight with other notable speakers such as Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and power couple Barack and Michelle Obama. While Kenyatta has confirmed his participation, the exact time of his speech remains a mystery. The main DNC program is scheduled to run from 7-11 p.m.

Despite efforts to reach Kenyatta’s office for comment, they have not responded as yet. However, Kenyatta has been actively sharing updates from the convention on his online platforms since Monday morning.
When asked about his upcoming speech, Kenyatta mentioned that he plans to shed light on the economic repercussions of Project 2025. This project, orchestrated by the Heritage Foundation, presents a policy agenda tailored for a future GOP president. Among its controversial suggestions are concentrating independent agencies like the Department of Justice under the president’s authority, escalating funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, slashing renewable energy financing, reducing corporate and income taxes, and removing the abortion pill mifepristone from the market.
“This is an incredible opportunity to address my fellow Americans about the critical issues at stake in this election,” Kenyatta stated. “I firmly believe that most Americans understand that we are not foes but allies in building a prosperous nation, and we need bold and sincere leaders to guide us.”
Aged 34, Kenyatta has been representing the 181st District since 2019. Despite an unsuccessful U.S. Senate bid in the 2022 Democratic primary against John Fetterman, he emerged victorious in the Democratic primary for auditor general over Mark Pinsley in April. Kenyatta, contending against Republican incumbent Tim DeFoor in the upcoming November elections, champions for enhanced LGBTQ+ rights, stricter firearm regulations, a boosted minimum wage, and the establishment of a labor and worker protections bureau.
In 2023, he became the focus of a documentary titled “Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn,” which chronicles his 2022 senate campaign, upbringing in Philadelphia, activism, and union with Matthew Jordan-Miller Kenyatta.
