As of Friday morning, Wildwood police had not released additional information regarding the crash, including the identities of those involved. Mayor Ernie Troiano described the incident as an “unfortunate situation” and confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
Witnesses at the scene recounted the harrowing ordeal, with some stating that the police vehicle veered dangerously close to the woman before ultimately striking her. People nearby had to intervene, shouting at the truck to stop and coming together to lift the vehicle off the woman’s torso. It was a truly horrific scene that left onlookers shaken.
Reports also surfaced of a golf cart crash earlier in August during the Wildwood Police Department’s National Night Out event at Fox Park. A juvenile driver, operating a cart programmed to simulate drunk driving, lost control and struck four adults and a child. An investigation into this incident is ongoing, with authorities yet to release any updates.
