Tragedy struck in Northeast Philly Wednesday night as a 48-year-old woman lost her life in a collision between her scooter and an SUV. The incident took place at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Academy Road in the Holmesburg neighborhood around 9:30 p.m.
According to authorities cited in a report by FOX29, the woman was riding what was described as a “motorized skateboard with handles” when she was hit by a Kia.

The fatal collision occurred as the woman was traveling northbound on Frankford Avenue, while the Kia SUV was heading southbound on Academy Road, resulting in a crash that caused the woman to fall off her scooter, which sustained significant damage.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where they found the woman unresponsive. She was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m.
The 20-year-old driver of the Kia stayed at the scene and, according to NBC10, authorities confirmed that the driver did not appear to be under the influence but was understandably shaken by the incident.
A witness revealed that the woman was part of a group of five or six scooter and dirt bike riders, but all other operators fled the scene following the crash.
With no charges filed as of yet, the investigation into the collision remains ongoing as authorities work to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
