Monday’s funeral service for Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew was a solemn yet heartwarming occasion. The tragic loss of the two brothers in a senseless accident has deeply impacted the hockey community. The memorial, held at Saint Mary Magdalen Church in Upper Providence, Delaware County, was attended by hundreds of people who gathered to honor the lives of the beloved brothers.

During the emotional eulogy, Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny’s widow, shared a bittersweet revelation – she is pregnant with the couple’s third child. This news came as a surprise, but John’s excitement and joy upon hearing about the pregnancy brought comfort to Meredith’s heart.

As Meredith shared her pregnancy news, she reflected on the overwhelming love and support from the community following the tragic loss of Johnny, a former NHL star, and Matthew, a respected hockey player. The couple had welcomed a daughter in 2022 and a son earlier this year. Matthew was also anticipating the arrival of his first child with his wife, Madeline, in December. To support Madeline and her baby, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $650,000.

Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, tragically lost their lives on August 29 while cycling in Oldmans Township. The driver, Sean Higgins, who struck the brothers, admitted to consuming alcohol before the accident. Higgins faces charges including death by auto and reckless driving.

The outpouring of support was evident as NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Johnny’s former teammates from the Columbus Blue Jackets paid their respects at the service. The Rev. Tony Penna, from Boston College, highlighted the significant impact Johnny and Matthew had on those around them, underscoring their love and value in the hearts of many.

Meredith fondly remembered the unbreakable bond between her husband and his brother, emphasizing how inseparable they were. Their connection, she described, was truly special and profound, embodying a deep sense of brotherly love.
