One of the most iconic Sports Illustrated covers for me is from 2013. I was a loyal subscriber to the magazine back then, and this cover captured a moment from the memorable Snow Bowl game against the Lions. The headline boldly stated, “A dreadful start, no home wins before November, another winter of discontent looming in Philly… and then Nick Foles happened.”

Little did they know, it would happen again. And again.

Nick Foles is a truly unique athlete. A savior for the Eagles in 2013, discarded two years later, and then nearly forgotten before rising to lead Philadelphia to glory – he is a true unicorn in the world of sports.

Comparing Foles to other athletes across different sports simply doesn’t do him justice. He defies all logic and expectations, delivering his best when it matters the most. It’s like imagining Stephen Curry being Lavoy Allen most of the time, but transforming into a superstar during crucial games.

Foles will officially retire as an Eagle during halftime of the team’s Monday Night Football game against the Falcons. A fitting tribute to a man who has earned a place in Philadelphia’s sports history with a statue outside Lincoln Financial Field.

Reflecting on the legendary 2017 Eagles Super Bowl run, I vividly recall the despair and uncertainty following Carson Wentz’s injury against the Rams. However, what followed was a miraculous journey led by Foles that culminated in a historic victory, defying all odds.

Despite a lackluster performance in the regular season, Foles transformed into a hero during the playoffs. From a stunning victory against the Vikings to outplaying Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, his fearless and clutch plays became the stuff of legend.

His unbelievable throw in the Super Bowl stands as one of the greatest moments in NFL history, showcasing his sheer talent and determination to succeed.

After a few tumultuous years, Foles rose to the occasion in the most important games for the Eagles, proving his detractors wrong and etching his name into Philadelphia sports lore.

His impact extended beyond the football field, bringing a renewed sense of hope and joy to the city. The night the Eagles won the Super Bowl felt like a grand finale of a beloved show, with fans celebrating in the streets and embracing a new era of success.

For me, Nick Foles is not just a football player; he’s a symbol of resilience and perseverance. His journey has touched many lives, including mine, reigniting my passion for sports and leading me to where I am today.

Nick Foles changed my life, as he likely changed yours. His legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts of Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia.
