As the calendar turns to September, the Philadelphia Phillies find themselves in a bit of a rough patch, despite taking two out of three games from the contending Astros. The vibes in Philly aren’t as immaculate as one might hope for a first-place club.
Since the All-Star break, the Phillies have struggled with consistency, pitching, and depth. As they aim to secure the NL East title and prepare for the postseason, questions linger about whether some key decisions made at the trade deadline and in the 2023-24 offseason were the right ones.
One area of focus is how former Phillies players are performing with their new teams. Let’s take a look at a few notable players:
Seranthony Domínguez, RP, Orioles
Domínguez has found success with the Orioles since being traded in July. His improved performance on the mound could have provided a much-needed boost to the struggling Phillies.
Stat | w/Phillies | w/Orioles |
IP | 36.0 | 14.0 |
ERA | 4.75 | 2.57 |
K/BB Ratio | 3.33 | 4.25 |
BAA | .224 | .163 |
WAR | -0.1 | 0.4 |
Gregory Soto, RP, Orioles
Contrarily, Soto has struggled with the Orioles after leaving the Phillies. His performance has taken a dip since the trade.
Cristian Pache, OF, Orioles, Marlins
Pache is facing challenges with the Marlins, hitting just .179 over 16 games. The Phillies, on the other hand, have a surplus of talent in the outfield.
Whit Merrifield, UTIL, Braves
Merrifield is delivering for the Braves after his release from the Phillies. His consistent performance is something the Phillies could use right now.
Craig Kimbrel, RP, Orioles
Kimbrel has been up and down with the Orioles, struggling to find consistency in his outings.
Rhys Hoskins, 1B, Brewers
While the Phillies miss Hoskins’ power and presence, Bryce Harper has been solid at first base in his absence.
Jake Cave, OF, Rockies
Cave is maintaining a decent batting average in Colorado while starting in right field regularly.
Michael Lorenzen, SP, Rangers, Royals
Lorenzen is proving to be a valuable asset for the Royals, showcasing strong pitching performances.
Bailey Falter, SP, Pirates
Falter is putting up mixed results in Pittsburgh, reminiscent of Taijuan Walker’s performances.
Connor Brogdon, RP, Dodgers
Brogdon had a rocky start after leaving Philly, but he remains a player to keep an eye on.
