The Philadelphia Phillies put on a dazzling performance against the Washington Nationals on Thursday night, finishing with a dominant score of 13-3. But the real star of the show was Weston Wilson, who etched his name into the history books with an incredible feat.
Batting in the eighth spot, Wilson showcased his versatility and skill throughout the game. He started with a perfect triple off the right-field wall in the fourth inning, followed by an unconventional single when an infield pop-up landed safely. In the seventh inning, he smashed a home run, and in the eighth, Wilson secured a double with a spectacular play that left fans in awe.
This remarkable performance marked the first cycle by a Phillies player since J.T. Realmuto achieved the feat last June against the Diamondbacks. Wilson became the 10th player in franchise history to hit for the cycle, standing out as the first rookie to accomplish this milestone for the team. Additionally, he made history by becoming the first player to hit for the cycle at Citizens Bank Park in over 20 years, joining the elite company of David Bell.
“A lot of great company,” Wilson humbly remarked after the game, reflecting on his historic achievement. “People, players that have played here, so just to have done that, it’s honestly kind of a blur to me right now. I’m just trying to process everything. Just very grateful.”
